2022 Round 11 Thunder Results
“You get a stripe, and you get a stripe, and you get a stripe”
“Darlington stripes for everyone"
The X-Finity series would head to the lady in black Darlington Raceway for AJD Australia 150 @ Darlington.
Darlington is a tough but rewarding track as just a small lapse in concentration can see you easily into the wall and the drivers are on the edge of control most of the time.
Ryan Jones would continue his good run of form of late taking the pole position with a lap time of 29.925. Neil Pearson following just behind with a 29.930, Hamish Gallagher 29.990 and Jaiden Russell 29.993 making up the 2nd row for the start of the race.
Jones would lead out for the first 10 laps before Gallagher was able to use a big run off turn 2 to pass Jones through turns 3 and 4. A long green flag run would see a number of cars opt for a 2 stop strategy to try and take advantage of fresh tires or needing to pit to get their Darlington stripe damage fixed.
Drivers were able to make the race distance with 1 pit stop if they desired to.
The races only caution would come out on lap 52 and at this point of the race there were only 15 cars still running on the lead lap.
All the lead lap cars would pit with a few of the lap down cars taking the wave around.
From here Gallagher would cruise away to get his 5th win of the season, winning by 12.5 seconds.
Jones and Pearson would finish the race with good runs for 2nd and 3rd

Season Recap.
Well, that’s season 1 for 2022 done and dusted.
This season saw the reigning Thunder series champion Hamish Gallagher take it up to the next level to get his 3rd championship in a row. 5 Wins, 9 top 5 and top 10 finishes plus an average finish of 3.36 meant he was untouchable with 2nd place finisher Josh Michelmore 59 points behind. 3rd place finisher Michael Scurlock being 68 points behind.
A lot of good racing throughout the field at most tracks and it always seems the field is getting closer and closer every season. A few tracks and races where it weren’t so good. The jury’s still out on short track racing where there may be a track change in season 3 but that’s to be decided.
We have a 2 week break from The Thunder series now which will resume on the 18th May with 100 Laps @ Texas. Season 2 will see the series head to Belle Isle and 3 road courses in total out of the 11 races with visits to Road America and Watkins Glen also.
Still looking to run naming rights for races for the rest of the season so send us a message if your interested in having your sponsor name on a race.
Keep an eye out for some special races coming up as well with the first one of these being on 4th of May. (International Star wars day too) We will be taking the 1987 cars to Talladega for 100 white knuckle laps.
The race will run the same format as our usual Wednesday night races:
4th of May
Practice 7pmAEST
Qualifying 8pmAEST
Race 8:05AEST
Fixed sets as usual
If you ever wondered what 350kph in a draft is like on bias ply tyres, well this is as close as you're likely to get without dropping a Kingswood out of a helicopter.
