2022 Round 7 Thunder Results
ANZCAR X-finity Recap
The Mad-Az Designs 86 at Richmond Raceway would see 115 laps at the fast short track for round 7 of the championship season.
It was the 350 of Scurlock getting pole with a lap time of a 22.350 in some serendipity! With Andrew Dyson on the outside in P2 .
As the race got under way we were treated to a fantastic green stint, Scurlock ran away at the start like a scolded cat with Dyson making a slight mistake in turn 2 clipping the wall and costing him momentum dropping back behind Gallagher and Urquijo, by the 10th lap we saw the reigning champion and X-finity master Gallagher get into the lead running hard early on, but this early speed may have cost his tires a little especially with the long early green stint.
The rest of the pack were racing hard and a few drivers would rub door panels, and even try the odd 3 wide moment a brave thing to do at Richmond.
By lap 23 Scurlock had gotten back to the lead as Gallaghers tires fell off a little.
Lap 29 would see our first caution come out as the 41 of Dyson made contact with the 550 of Koch, this lead to a 2nd accident where the 41 tried to flick spin to get it back on line which lead to him clipping team mate the 98 of Williams.
The lap 30 caution gave the field the chance to head into pit lane, Scurlock, Gallagher, and Urquijo would keep their front 3 spots for most of the remaining night, as we saw the yellow come out 5 more times.
The field would take their last stop on lap 96 following an accident and yellow which lead us to a short run to the end. However it would finally come down to a Green white checker, Scurlock would get a great launch at the start with Gallagher following him but the was the battle for 3rd where things got spicy as Douglas tried to pounce on Urquijo, the 10 of Douglas got lose as the white came out and then chaos happened behind as nearly the whole field got caught up in a large crash with the white out we did not see the caution so the race went to the line.
The 350 of Scurlock taking victory, with 13 of Gallagher in 2nd, 3rd was the 42 of Urquijo, with Both the 11 of Jones 4th, and 21 of Martin 5th Missing out on the wreck.
A mention goes out to Michelmore in 7th who managed to show great avoidance skills and make his way from 16th to 7th in the last lap.
Unfortunately, due to no telemetry being provided after the race, race winner Scurlock has been DQ’ed.
