2022 Round 8 Thunder Results
The paperclip proved tricky for the Thunder series.
The Mobile Brake and Mechanical 60 @ Martinsville would see 25 drivers’ line up to attempt to race round 8 of the championship season.
Well at least I think there was some racing in there at some points with the longest green flag run being about 7 laps or so and there being 12 cautions for 54 laps. Yeah 54 caution laps out of 115.
We saw Hamish Gallagher take pole with Urquijo on his outside, but an early accident saw the dog box entry fall back and out of the race, meanwhile at the front it was all about keeping out of trouble and pit lane!
While all but 3 cars came to pit lane, Douglas, Carrol-Walden, Gallagher stayed out and it paid off for the latter two. Douglas how ever came unstuck on the last lap when Michelmore tried a charge down the inside on fresher tires and ended up clipping the #10 of douglas. This caused the caution to fall for the finish and the race to end with a Yellow.
Despite this there were some great drives in the field and battles with the short green stints one that stood out was Russell and Gallagher for the lead in the mid race where they battled side by side. And the little green runs we saw did see some great action.
Same old Martinsville racing for ANZCAR drivers sadly and doesn’t appear that we are getting any better at it.
The reason why this track was added to the schedule was because we are trying to match the real life one as much as possible except for Belle Isle because it’s one of my personal favourites.
But given that every race we do here ends up the same way with the same driving we will be looking to swap out the 2nd visit to Martinsville later in the year to another track I reckon.
Lost in all of this is that Gallagher Dominated every aspect leading all laps, fastest lap time and race win. Well done, Hamish.
