2022 Round Thunder Results
The X-Finity series would head to the famous Talladega for the DD's Casting Couch 180 @ Talladega.
The 9th round of the series, the question everyone asked was: “when will we see the big one?”
Ruben Phelps put the 06 on pole with a scorching single lap run, with the lucky 13 of Gallagher on the outside in 2nd
And from the start we were treated to some beautiful pack racing! With the cars running two wide for the early stages with a third line opening up, but lap 12 saw the race see the first caution when a car got lose in the mid pack, this saw all but the Mad dog himself Steve Hoppit come in for a fuel top up.
We would get to lap 27 with more great pack action when the dreaded Netcode would strike Hurley as he made contact with Carrol-Walden and the big one happened, the two were sitting 3rd and 4th at the time meaning the 34 cars behind them had to dodge and avoid, which many skilfully did but many were not so lucky.
With this caution the field could not make it to the end on fuel, but half the pack would come in splitting the field up and giving us some great racing on the restart as drivers made their way from the mid pack to the front.
A few drivers were safe on fuel, others were touch and go while some had no chance. But a couple of cautions would make it so everyone could get to the end on their tank.
We would see another large wreck with a handful of laps remaining leaving us with a shoot out to the end, Rolach, Jones, O'Shea, Caple, Closey, May were in with a shot but contact on the white lap took most out and it was a shootout between O'Shea and Michelmore, Although Jones crossed the line first a penalty dropped him back.
The controversy was not over as O'Shea was below the yellow line at the line despite coming first this meant that Michelmore in the 31 will get the win.
Another dramatic finish at a superspeedway!
