2022 S2 Round 10 Thunder Results
Michelmore gets another and closes the points gap to Gallagher to 7 points heading into the final race of the season.
Josh Michelmore would take the pole position with a lap of 39.091. The top 12 qualifying cars separated by half a second. Jaiden Russell and Michael Scurlock would start the race off running side by side battling for the 2nd position before settling into single line running from lap 3 onwards.
Scurlock would use a big run off turn 4 to take the lead away from Michelmore into turn 1 on lap 5 as side-by-side running would continue down through out the field.
Unfortunately for race leader Scurlock VR issues would arise leading him to clobber the wall on lap 9. This would see the 350 Toyota head to pit road to park the car up for the night.
This would allow Michelmore to retake the lead and add to his race laps lead.
Drivers would battle a car tightening up as the run went on leading to cars contacting the wall on corner exits and damaging the right front of the car.
Russell would make the pass for the lead on lap 22 and would continue to battle for the lead with Michelmore. Hamish Gallagher would use this to close in on the front 2 waiting for an opportunity to grab the lead. 2 Wide running for multiple laps for the lead.
Lap 41 would see the leading cars start to make their green flag pit stops. 1 stop being needed to make the race distance home if the race was to continue green. Russell would pit first and use the under cut to build a bit of a buffer to Michelmore.
A bad pit stop would see Gallagher drop down the order and battle to make up the spots lost. Michelmore would chase down and pass Russell on the 54th lap. Ryan Jones in 3rd and Steven Williams in 4th and Norman Clark having strong races in the top 6.
Lap 62 would see the races only caution with all the leaders coming down pit road again to grab fresh tires and top up fuel if needed. Michelmore would get a great restart and use this hold the lead. Williams restarting in 3rd would move up and start battling for the race lead with side-by-side action for multiple laps.
Williams couldn’t clear Michelmore for the lead and whilst he would lead at times of the lap, he couldn’t hold it when they would cross the line. Russell Jones and Williams would go 3 wide with Russell taking over the lead with 5 laps to go.
An intense battle between the top 8 cars with Nigel Paton have a strong run as well.
Michelmore would retake the lead at the start of the last lap and hold on to grab his 2nd win of the season and close the points gap to Gallagher who finished 6th.
Heading into the final race of the season at Watkins Glen we see Hamish Gallagher holding a 7 point lead in the standings over Josh Michelmore and Ryan Jones 12 points off from Gallagher in 3rd.

Next week sees the Thunder series head to Watkins Glen for Thunder 100 @ the Glen!
The thunder race this week at Watkins Glen is going to be 40 laps instead of 33 laps now. With the lap time for the cup lay out i felt the race was going to be too short so have bumped it up a bit.
