2022 Round Thunder Results
Michelmore brings it home at the home of NASCAR!
The ANZCAR 180 at Charlotte would see an absolute bumper field of 40 cars take the starting flag for this race.
Jaiden Russell the fastest of these to grab the pole position followed closely by “Mr Thunder” Hamish Gallagher, Ruben Phelps and Michael Scurlock.
Russell would lead out the first 4 laps before Gallagher would take over the lead on lap 5.
A 6 car group would break away early on with Aiden Schultz and Ryan Jones battling for 5th and 6th early on. Jones would work his way up to 3rd with Daniel Grzeskiewicz in 4th and Matt Knight in 6th having good early runs.
The races first caution would come out on lap 30 and this would see pretty much every car come into the pits to grab the 1st of their 3 sets of extra tires.
Gallagher would lead off the next run clearing out while a battle pack would fight it out for 2nd through to 7th. Jones would take over the lead of the race on lap 40 and lead until Gallagher would reclaim it on lap 54.
Blaine Densely would move into 3rd place showing good race pace.
Another caution on lap 61 would see the bulk of the field pitting again for fresh tires and fuel. This would start to see a few drivers thinking about conserving their tires hoping to have a fresh set available for a possible late caution.
Justin Whitcher would stay out at this caution saving a set of tires and leading the restart of the race. A caution on lap 81 would see most of the leaders come into the pits again and grab their final set of tires to run the last 35 or so laps.
This is where we would see the gamblers come into play with the first 9 cars on track at the restart not pitting and saving a set of tires hoping for another caution to break up the final run.
If there was another caution after this these drivers would look pretty good and have a lap pace advantage over the other drivers with no tires left to change to.
Grzeszkiewicz would lead off the next restart. Josh Michelmore would use restarting on the low line to his advantage to get ahead of Gallagher as they worked their way back through the field.
New tires vs old tires would make for some interesting action throughout the field.
On lap 91 Michelmore would take over the lead from teammate Grzeszkiewicz and work through traffic to win the race. Gallagher coming in 2nd and Dave Douglas finishing 3rd after starting 22nd.
Grzeszkiewicz finishing in 11th the first of the drivers with 1 set of tires left but didn’t get that final caution to use them.

Other Notes:
Messy start of the race again this week with cars not getting into their correct starting position and this throwing the start out for others. If this keeps on happening, we will have to start looking at penalties.
DQ –Car 350 - Michael Scurlock – Abusive language
I’ve chucked in a screenshot of the year long points standings as well for an update.
Remember the year long one will be 27 counting races and 6 drop rounds. If I get a chance ill look at doing the drop rounds in there for a clearer week to week picture.
