2022 S2 Round 8 Thunder Results
Russell wins @ the Trickly Triangle!!
Week 8 of ANZCAR Thunder season 2 2022 would head to Long Pond Pennsylvania USA for 60 laps @ Pocono Raceway.
Andrew Dyson would grab the pole position with a lap time of 54.267 with Hamish Gallagher 54.419, Kye Turner 54.435, Dave Douglas 54.436 and Ryan Jones 54.518 making up the top 5.
The early running would see Kye Turner work his way past Jones and then make the pass on Dyson for the lead on lap 8. A feature of the early laps would be Dave Douglas aggressively moving around the track and making moves to break the draft.
Lots of 2 wide, 3 wide and 4 wide racing throughout the field.
Gallagher would work past Turner and Dyson would reclaim the lead on lap 17 little mistakes would cost drivers momentum and see positions be lost.
Dyson and Gallagher would trade the lead late in this run.
34 laps on a tank of fuel would see 1 pit stop being enough to get home of the race stayed green throughout.
A handful of drivers would pit on lap 26 hoping to use the undercut of fresh tires to make up positions. On lap 30 Adam Malone would pit and on the out lap after the stop would spin the car in turn 2 on cold tires bringing out the races first caution.
All the cars that had stayed out would take the chance to pit for tires and fuel while the cars that had just pitted would stay out. This would see a big mix of tire life between the cars. Dyson in 8th would be the first car on fresh tires with Jones leading the field to the green. Douglas and Michelmore would also have fresher tires having been on pit road as the caution came out.
Douglas would take over the lead while the battles throughout the field would heat up. Plenty of bumping and banging going on between cars with drivers doing well to hold onto their cars.
The 2nd caution of the race would occur on lap 42 and would see all the leaders come in for more fresh tires. The race would restart on lap 46 with Douglas and Russell battling hard for the lead. Russell making the pass and taking over the lead. The top 8 battling very hard for position early on in this run.
A caution on lap 57 would set up a green, white checker finish. This would see a big mix of different strategies on leading cars pitting for fresh tires and cars staying out.
Cars staying out would be race leader Russell, Michelmore, Phelps, Georgeson.
The first of the cars on some sort of fresh tires either 2 or 4 would be Jones restarting in 5th
The green, white checker would see 2 wide, 3 wide, 4 wide and possibly 5 wide action down the front straight. A caution in the first corner would see the race end under caution with Russell grabbing the win.

Lap 46 – Race Restart – Car 408 – Kye Turner – Lane change
Lap 57 – Caution - Car No. 274 – Luke Georgeson – Incident Noted
