2022 S3 Round 7 Thunder Results
Gallagher brings it home at the home of NASCAR !!
Round 7 of the ANZCAR Thunder Series 3 2022 saw the series head to the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval for 33 laps.
Qualifying would see Ryan Jones grab another pole position with Joshua Carroll-Walden, Lachlan Urquijo, Hamish Gallagher, and Matthew Raymond making up the top 5 finishing positions. Funnily enough these drivers would make up the top 5 finishing positions in a different order except Raymond dropping to 6th place behind Tom Neil.
The older version of the Roval track was in use which would see the faster back chicane in use. This would lead to some big sends and airtime off the sausage curbs.
From the start Jones would come under attack from JCW going side by side through turns 4, 5 and 6 before Jones was able to clear JCW through turn 7 into 8. JCW grabbing too much curb in the exit of the back curb would see him drop positions to just inside the top 5. Jones would enjoy a comfortable lead as the rest of the field would fight each other for position. A mistake coming out of the last chicane on lap 7 would see Gallagher take over the lead.
On lap 11 Tom Neil would come into the pits from 8th position for fuel and tries to make it the race distance. A great strategy move as Tom would end up finishing 5th
Pre-Race favourite Andrew Dyson would start the race in 12th position and work his way through the field and would take over the lead at the end of lap 17 when Gallagher would pit.
Dyson would have the race under control until making his pit stop on lap 22. Speeding on pit road would see a time penalty added to the pit stop and this would take him out of the running for the win.
There were several bruised and battered cars throughout the field and were nursed home in this one.
Gallagher in what was his 200th official ANZCAR start brought it home for the win with Jones in 2nd and Urquijo in 3rd.
Results:
1st: Hamish Gallagher
2nd: Ryan Jones
3rd: Lachlan Urquijo
4th: Joshua Carroll-Walden
5th: Tom Neil
