2022 S3 Round 8 Thunder Results
Thunder Black Jack in Vegas !!
Round 8 of the ANZCAR Thunder Series 3 2022 would see the series head to the Las Vegas for 100 laps.
Qualifying would see Hamish Gallagher top the chart closely followed by Edward Foster, Jason Martin, Ryan Jones Michael Scurlock and Josh Michelmore rounding out the top 6 starting positions.
From the race start the top 3 would settle in quick with the early battles being for 4th 5th and 6th as well as a large battle pack battling away form 17th on through to 26th
Martin would take over the lead coming through turns 3 and 4 on the 8th lap as Gallagher would drop back to 3rd after Jones was able to make the pass for 2nd.
Lap 15 would see the first caution of the night. All leading cars opting to pit for tires and fuel with Gallagher winning the race off pit road to control the lead again until passed by Jones on lap 30.
The race would have points throughout of large battle packs throughout the field as the right front tire heating up would make it harder for drivers to get enough momentum to make the pass on the inside lane.
Lap 35 would see the 2nd caution of the night come out and would also see the start in a split of strategies throughout the field. Martin, Gallagher, JCW all staying out and joined by Ruben Phelps, Raymond Jaeger, Jamie Nankervis, Paul Drady, and Matthew Raymond in doing so.
This meant that the next race restart saw a lot of action between cars on older tires and cars charging through on fresh tires. All drivers would do a really good job managing this. At times we would see 3 wide action and massive speed differences through the corners. Michelmore would power through the field to take over the lead followed by Jones and Russell.
Another caution on lap 47 would see the cars that stayed out last caution come in and get their fresh tires and several cars running down the back coming in for a fuel top up.
From the next restart we again see good action with fresh tire cars working through the older tire cars. The top settling in with Michelmore, Russell and Foster until Martin was able to retake the lead on lap 65.
Several drivers would be on the limit of making the remaining race distance without needing a pit stop. Luke Georgeson, Tom Neil, Nigel Seidel, Michelmore, Foster and Jones wouldn’t be one of these drivers as they would come to pit road under green flag conditions on lap 81.
The last caution of the night would come out on lap 83 and catch all these drivers out a lap down effectively ending their chances of a race win although they were able to take the wave around to get on the back of the leaders.
If you had any options or fresh tires left, you had to put them on the table. All the leaders would come into pit road for a top up of fuel and tires and from the restart the battle at the front would be settled. The battle through the pack not so much.
But it would be Jason Martin running the natural blackjack car number 21 that would take away the win in Vegas.
