2022 S3 Round 6 Trucks Results
Truck Series Recap:
On Monday night, the Affinity Constructions Truck Series took on Bristol Speedway for the halfway mark race of Season 3. A field of 23 truckers lined the grids, led by Danny G from the Pole and Josh Michelmore leading the outside row.
Danny G led the field off the initial start of the race and then the race started to unfold with drivers experiencing high oil temps after about 10 laps which turned the race into a fuel saving of sorts where drivers had to back out of the throttle to maintain engine temperatures. After pegging the engine temps in the red zone, Danny G had to give up the lead and fall back to the tail end of the top 10 before he could get back up to speed. One driver having none of it was Jason Martin who’d decided he’d come to race that night, not stay out of the throttle. After racing in the top 5 hard, Martin’s engine did finally expire sending him off with an earlier night than usual.
However, the engine temps did make the race interesting in parts, drivers ran hard until they had to cool down which led to a lot of wide open parts of the racetrack that would quickly seal back up when drivers had to take it easy, but the drivers behind were on it. As usual, Bristol handed several cautions that flew over the 130 lap race.
After Martins exit, Jaiden Russell became the man to beat but a late yellow threw the race into an anyone’s game when drivers in the back end of the top 10 came in for fresh tires over the leaders. This made for some hard charging drivers coming through the field in the closing laps, led by Josh Michelmore who sent his truck through turns 3-4 on the last lap on edge and became unstuck, spinning across the track.
Jaiden Russell would go on to win the race with Toby Stent in 2nd, the first driver on fresh rubber.
