Race Results Round 1 2022 Daytona
Gallagher picks up where he left off and reconfirms, he is the one to beat this year.
Round 1 of the ANZCAR Thunder series 2022 would see a near full field line up for the ANZCAR 150 @ Daytona.
Hamish Gallagher and Dylan O’Shea would share the front row both setting identical lap times of 50.579 in qualifying.
A 50-lap green flag run would start the race off and this would include a green flag pit stop cycle. 2 packs formed with the 2nd pack unable to catch back up to the front pack again and paying the price with being lapped and not having a chance to get back on the lead lap.
Several drivers would have issues on pit road with speeding penalties, missed pit boxes, spins coming out of pit road setting them back as well.
The first caution would come out on lap 50. With the leaders all OK to make it to the end of the race on fuel there weren’t many takers for a pit stop. Track position being the most important thing now.
Another quick caution on lap 58 would see a bit of a “big one” taking out several drivers running back in the pack.
The scene was set for a 4-lap run to the flag that had another “big one” happen again on the last lap but being the last lap, no caution would come out. This caused a bit of chaos near the back as drivers tried to pick their way through slow cars while also trying to pick up as many spots as they could.
But in the end Hamish Gallagher would cap off a dominant night of racing, leading the most laps and taking the win.
