Race Results Round 1 2022 Daytona
Truck Series Recap:
The ANZCAR Speedweeks kicked off last night @ Daytona Speedway for the first outing for the newly branded Affinity Constructions Truck Series. The highly anticipated event filled its 40 entry slot capacity within minutes of registration as drivers flocked in to have their say for Race 1 of the 2022 season.
Starting off from Pole Position was Jason Martin sporting Mitch Motorsports new title sponsor Affinity Constructions, leading the outside in row two was Dylan O'Shea in his Sim Rigs #019 Silverado.
Green Flag! The trucks roar through the tri oval led by Martin, the top 15 resolve their order single file running the bottom lane for the first handful of laps until the top line started making moves led by Todd Maxfield.
The first caution of the night flew on lap 11 when Todd Maxfield and Brad Allison came together in the tri oval. Less than 15 laps later the nights second yellow flag flew when Igor Brkic caught the wall in turn one, sending him into the grass.
This is set up an interesting run to the finish with lapped cars breaking the pack up and a green flag pit stop to spread the field out further with less than 15 laps remaining. A breakaway pack formed out front consisting of Martin, Josh Michelmore, Rhys May, Joshua Carroll-Walden, Edward Foster and Danny G. The 6 continued to power along dropping the chasing pack out of the equation until a late wreck up front between team mates Martin and Michelmore slowed the race once more, Foster and JCW were also both collected in the incident. The incident set up a Green/White/Checker finish with Danny G and Michelmore holding the top spots.
White Flag! And a wreck occurred through the tri –oval and then another through turns 1 and 2, Michelmore was collected and spun down into Danny G in the lead, Danny G was able to keep running while Luke Trahair also managed to find his way through the wreck, the white flag still waving, Danny G fans up and down the back stretch trying to break the draft against Trahair, but as the two rounded turn 3 and the exit of turn 4, a good run by Trahair saw him shoot to the outside and win the drag race through the tri oval to the start/finish line, picking up the first win of the season!
Post Race Inspection: Riley Curtis driver was unable to provide a telemetry file and has been disqualified.
We also had a broadcast last night thanks to our friend and Admin Karl Wilkinson-Withey! Thank you very much, Karl. Catch the replay here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pB00cdOlmDs

P.S: I messed up the iRacing Full Season league and bonus points haven't counted so I will be creating a separate standings in the coming week to keep track of that season. This will be up after the week 3 race when the full schedule season takes effect. Next week the Truck Series heads to Homestead for 100 laps!
