2023 Round 16 Cup Results
Dyson wines and dines them at Sonoma.
The cup series this week was in wine country, Sonoma, California for 45, no scratch that, 60 laps(as the new guy has no idea...) of Sonoma Raceway, a 1.99 mile road course.
Qualifying would see Andrew Dyson once again place his #41 DPR rocket ship on the pole position, Toby Stent would be 2nd .930 behind Dyso, while Darryn Lobb and Ruben Phelps would make up the 2nd row of the grid.
The race would start in chaotic fashion as Ruben Phelps would get on the gas to much and get out of shape, making contact with Lachlan Urquijo, Daniel Hetterscheid, Matthew Raymond and Steven Williams.
At the very front there were no such issues for pole sitter Dyson as he led away smoothly and established a comfortable lead early over Toby Stent and Darryn Lobb. Lobb soon worked his way past Stent and set about the task of chasing Dyson down.
Lap 10 would see Neil Pearson make the move on Toby Stent for 3rd having started from position 8.
Lap 16 would see Lobb right up to the back of Dyson for the lead, before Dyson would put the foot back down and pull a gap again, but this would only be temporary as lap 25 would see Lobb make a move past Dyson to take the lead. Lapped cars would come into play, but Lobb continued to lead through to lap 30 where Dyson would get back past and Lobb would head to the pit lane for his stop. Dyson would pit the following lap and come back out ahead of Lobb.
Unfortunately Darryn would suffer a technical issue and would drop 2 laps ending his challenge. It would be smooth sailing from there for Dyson as he went on to claim the victory 4.5 seconds ahead of teammate Neil Pearson, Toby Stent would finish 3rd, the final car on the lead lap, 4th was Lachlan Urquijo and Matthew Raymond would round out the top 5.
Next week sees the cup series have a week off, before heading to the music city, Nashville, Tennessee and the Nashville Superspeedway.
