2023 Round 32 Cup Results
CUP SERIES, ROAD COURSE, DYSON, YOU KNOW THE REST
Andrew Dyson would lead out from pole position, joined on the outside front row by teammate Neil Pearson.
The early action would see chase contender Jaie Schultz self-spin on the first set of corners after having started in 9th position. Restarting from 14th position and diminishing his chances of advancing through to the next round.
With Pearson locked into the next round of the chase the gloves were off between himself and teammate Christopher Ireland as they battled for 2nd position. This led to multiple pieces of contact between the 2 of them culminating in Pearson spinning out on the back chicane on lap 20. Unfortunately for chase contender Norman Clark a hard hit off the back chicane turtles would see him make heavy contact with the wall and be forced to pit for repairs effectively ending his hopes of progressing to the next chase round.
Lachlan Urquijo, another driver needing a strong finish to advance in the chase was holding strong in 4th place and with Schultz’s early trouble dropping him down the order it looked like Urquijo would be able to progress into the next chase round. A self-spin by Pearson put Urquijo in with a shot at 3rd position on lap 26.
Lap 35 would see Ireland pull off a remarkable pass on the inside of Urquijo in turn 5 briefly going 3 wide with a lapped Clark on the outside. Lap 36 would see a momentary lapse in concentration from Urquijo make contact with the wall on the run to the Roval Exit. The resulting damage requiring a pit stop to repair dropping him down the order and most likely ending his chase run.
In the later stages of the race Joshua Carroll-Walden and Schultz engaged in aa great back and forth battle swapping positions multiple times a lap at some stages. Schultz would prevail to finish 7th and JCW 8th.
Up the front though no one had anything for Dyson as he would lead from start to finish to take home another road course victory. Ireland getting his first podium with a 2nd place and Ruben Phelps coming home in 3rd.
As 2 more drivers bid farewell to their chase dreams, the series heads to Las Vegas to kick off the round of 6. The winner of this race earning themselves a ticket to the final race of the year and a chance to claim the championship title!!!
