2023 Series 1 Round 12 Truck Results
Truck Series Recap:
Tonight the ANZCAR Truck Series finished off Season 1 of 2023 with a 100 lap race around Nashville Superspeedway. The championship would come down to Hamish Gallagher and Josh Michelmore and straight off the bat Gallagher pounded in a Pole alongside Lachlan Urquijo.
The inside lane moved well off the start sending Lachlan back into a battle for 3rd place with Ryan Jones. After 10 laps the field started to spread a little, Jason Martin was up into 2nd place and the field started forming a couple of packs of trucks separated by a couple of seconds as they rounded lap 20. At lap 35 Martin was just starting to eat into the half second he had from the leader while Michelmore, Jones and Steven Williams rounded out the top 5.
The halfway mark ticked over pretty quickly with the racing green flag so far, Gallagher was back out to a half second lead as the top 5 remained the same. Jaie Schultz had found a little breathing air in 6th place when Gallagher hit pit lane on lap 51. From here the field trickled down pit lane until the first caution of the night came out on lap 61 just as race leader Ruben Phelps had hit pit lane.
The race resumed on lap 67 with Jones out in front and Williams chasing. With 20 laps to go, Jones still led from Williams but Gallagher was right back in the picture driving up into 3rd and knocking about a tenth a lap off of Jones. On lap 88 Gallagher and and Jones made contact on the back stretch damaging both vehicles and Michelmore who was looking very strong in the later laps drove underneath to claim the lead and a second gap over now second place driver Martin.
From there Michelmore cruised away to his first Truck Series victory of 2023 while Gallagher finished up in 4th place sealing the title! Jason Martin took home 2nd, Garry Wellman 3rd and Williams in 5th.
