2023 Series 1 Round 4 Truck Results
Truck Series Recap:
Last night the ANZCAR Truck Series headed to COTA for a 25 lap race on the schedules road course. Hamish Gallagher topped the field throughout qualifying beating out Jaie Schultz by half a second in 2nd.
The field took off cleanly at the start of the race with Gallagher launching out ahead of the field as they rounded Turn 1 cleanly, Wade Sheedy pressured Gallagher through the esses a little bit and by lap 2 through the same area had made the pass for first place as Gallagher fell back to 3rd behind Schultz. By lap 5 Gallagher had moved back around Schultz for second while Chris Finlay and Darren Mckenzie rounded out the Top 5.
Gallagher started to close back up to the leader for several laps before taking the lead again on lap 11. Pit stops started to take place at about the races halfway mark with Gallagher resuming the lead and Sheedy starting to catch right back up by lap 17. Schultz and Finlay continued racing one another for 3rd and 4th and Mckenzie had a small pocket of air in 5th.
On lap 19 Sheedy worked his way back into the lead once again through the esses but Gallagher didn't give up and kept pursuing making the move for first place on lap 23, heavy under braking before the back stretch but faced a black flag and a pit lane penalty at the back end of it, handing the race back over to Sheedy with just 2 laps to go.
From there, Sheedy cruised away to his first ANZCAR Series victory while Gallagher fell back into 2nd place, and far behind Chris Finlay finally pulled a move a Schultz to take 3rd place after several laps of battling away. Matthew Raymond finished the race with a strong run in 5th place.
