2023 Series 1 Round 5 Truck Results
Truck Series Recap:
On Monday night the ANZCAR Truck Series visited Texas Motor Speedway for Round 5 of Season 1.
Another big turn out for this, should the writer assume to be correct in thinking we should just scrap the road courses in the Truck Series?
Personally I was thinking more International tracks instead of the same ol'? Voice up Truckers! The big Gun, Hamish Gallagher out on Pole over Ruben Phelps as the two lined up for the 100 lap event.
Fireworks on lap one, as a multi truck wreck happened into the entry of Turn 3 taking out some strong contending trucks from the running early and probably, a sigh of relief to others. Restart, lap 6, Gallagher leads the field away in an orderly fashion, but the series Points leader Josh Michelmore had other ideas, pinching the lead within 2 laps and adding a crucial bonus point to his season tally.
A handful of laps later, the nights 2nd caution falls as two trucks exiting Turn 2 take turns giving each other jabs which ended in a knockout down the back stretch.
At the quarter way mark, Jaie Schultz was leading the race over Darren Mckenzie, Luke Kenny, Josh Michelmore and Steven Williams and the leaders would pace around like this until green flag pit stops, but an unfortunate moment entering Turn 3 for Mckenzie as he ended up 3 wide and in a wreck trying to pass some slower drivers.
This threw some strategies out the window for the drivers that had already seen pit lane, and the beneficiary of the whole saga.. Gallagher. Racing away from the field with 38 laps to go. Team mate Michelmore again had something to say about it, pinching the lead with 30 to go as Gallagher fell back to 4th place with Christopher Finlay now up in top 5 having something to say about the outcome with Schultz.
18 laps to go and Gallagher reclaimed the lead off of Michelmore and sailed off into the fading sun to clinch another win in the 2023 opening season. Michelmore would stack a solid points day in 2nd place, Finlay with a great run in 3rd, Brent Hobbs smashing the back half of the race for 4th and Noddy Tompkins with a power drive last restart for 5th place!
Again, big shout out to Chequrered Flag E-Streaming, the boys do a wonderful job bringing the ANZCAR Truck Series to life through their broadcasts and spreads or following far and wide, so thank you, you can check lasts night stream out right here!
