2023 Series 1 Round 7 Truck Results
Truck Series Recap:
Last night the ANZCAR Truck Series entered Round 7 @ Martinsville Speedway for a 130 lap race around the paperclip. 24 drivers turned out for the event with Hamish Gallagher claiming another Pole for the season lining up on the inside of Josh Michelmore in 2nd.
It didn’t take long for the action to get underway with a melee in Turn 1 on lap 2 which sorted itself out without caution and only half a lap later the first yellow of the night flew when an accordion style wrecked happened entering Turn 3. Another yellow followed soon after before the pack was able to get racing, Gallagher was able to hold onto the early restarts and maintain the lead with Michelmore and Steven Williams often battling on the restarts for 2nd position while Simon Hetterscheid, Ruben Phelps, Shaun Doecke and Jaie Schultz were holding spots around the top 5.
While the majority of the leaders did not partake in pit stops for the first half of the race under yellow, those that did from the midfield back were able to make some ground during the longer green flag run through the midway mark of the race, led by Danny G who managed to drive up into 4th place after being involved in a couple of wrecks early on. A yellow flag in the final half of the race sent everyone down pit road and back out again on equally fresh tires.
Gallagher continued to restart strongly with Michelmore until Michelmore got loose coming off Turn 4, parking himself in the middle of the track avoiding contact with the wall. From the back he would have to come through the field to try and reclaim some lost positions. During the later laps of the race cautions fell repeatedly, Danny G had now climbed up into 2nd after some hard racing with Phelps and Williams.
The race would ultimately come down to a green-white-checker finish with Gallagher and Danny G timing a good final restart to solidify their top 2 spots while Williams held onto 3rd place over Phelps and Michelmore. Lachlan Urquijo was sent around on the last lap in Turns 3 and 4 coming to line putting a damper on his day.
Again, big shout out to Chequrered Flag E-Streaming, Mark had to put up a big individual performance with some technical difficulties this week but still managed to bring the Truck Series to life!
