2023 Series 1 Round 9 Truck Results
Truck Series Recap:
On Monday night the ANZCAR Truck Series made its way to Darlington Raceway for round 8 of the season. A hot track made it quite slick for the 24 drivers who lined up on the grid, led by Josh Michelmore and Hamish Gallagher through qualifying.
It didn't take long for the action to get underway with a wreck on the first lap which quickly blocked the track leading to a big pile up and a lot of damaged vehicles.
The second run would last a little longer than the first. Michelmore continued to lead over the field, and the top 10 raced a little closer to the leaders. Ryan Jones was determined to get up to the lead, knocking Darren Mckenzie out of the way in the top 5 early in the run and the 2nd caution of the night would fly on lap 37
From here it was a green flag race to the finish. Gallagher managed to pass Michelmore for the lead and as the tires wore, more and more drivers earned themselves a Darlington Stripe as they smacked the wall. 30 laps to go a decision had to be made by the drivers to either pit, or not pit. Gallagher was one of the few who elected to come down pit road and as he raced the final 25 laps with fresh tires managed to race his way from a lap down back into the lead with only 2 laps to go as Steven Williams had to give it up trying to save enough fuel to reach the finish line.
Ruben Phelps saved onto his fuel tank to finish the 100 lap race in 2nd position, Williams limped over the line in 3rd, Ryan Jones who was the first leader to come down pit road managed to race his way back into 4th and Norman Clark made his strategy work out to finish in 5th.
Again, big shout out to Chequrered Flag E-Streaming, the boys do a wonderful job bringing the ANZCAR Truck Series to life through their broadcasts and spreads or following far and wide, so thank you, you can check lasts night stream out right here!
