2023 Series 2 Round 5 Truck Results
Truck Series Recap:
On Monday night the ANZCAR Truck Series rolled along to Lucas Oil Raceway with a short field of 15 entries at the Indianapolis short track. Andrew Dyson was the quickest in qualifying, posting up Pole Position alongside **drum roll** Ryan Jones.
For such a short field the 130 lap race produced quite a lot of action. Dyson and Jones battled away early in the race until Josh Michelmore came charging through to take the lead and would run away with that lead for much of the race. Dyson and Jones had a coming together at about the halfway mark in the race which ended Dysons night early, Jones was able to continue through the race, fixing damage and racing for the lucky dog position to get back on the lead lap and in contention.
As the race wound down the racing started to get a little more aggressive and cautions started to fall late. After the majority of the field pitted for fresh rubber within the last ten laps under yellow flag conditions, Jack Barrett tried his luck at staying out, getting a good run at the drop of the green and into the white flag final lap.
Michelmore, the first driver on fresh rubber after getting caught up in an accident just a few laps earlier was on a mission, storming off Turn 2 and getting a big run down the back stretch. Barrett kept his truck on the race line, Michelmore went slightly higher, losing the back end on the entry of Turn 3, the front end touching the right rear of Barrett's truck and both crashed mid corner, creating a big wreck as every driver behind them saw the finish line in their eyes.
Trucks sprawled across the track and 3 drivers were black flagged after crossing the start/finish line, one of them was Ruben Phelps who had the win stripped away with a black flag.
Michelmore crossed the line in 3rd place but was awarded the win after penalties. Koby Jordan, Ryan Jones, Matty Raymond and Mark Smith rounded out the top 5 after all was said and done.
