2023 Series 3 Round 1 Truck Results
Truck Series Recap: 100 laps – Chicagoland Speedway
The first race of Season 3 of the 2023 season kicked off at the popular Chicagoland Speedway and last seasons combatants were at it once more with Hamish Gallagher taking pole ahead of team mate Michelmore.
As the green flag fell the Mitch Mostorport team would pull an early lead with all 3 cars up front, where they would stay upto the first caution on lap 6 when the first caution fell as after a check up the 98 of Williams would end up in the wall after contact with the 143 of Shepherd. The field would take this opportunity to visit the pit lane for fresh tires.
As the race returned to green the pack got racy with 4 wide action out of turn 2 which ended in disaster for the 03 of Allison who got hit and speared off to the infield with the 143 of Shepard being in the wrong place at the wrong time, how ever they recovered and did not bring the caution out.
How ever 3 laps later the 131 of Hoppit and 74 of Colloridi were not so lucky making contact into 3 the Mad dog ended his night with heavy contact in the wall. The yellow was back out and the pack scrambled back into pit lane.
As the track was cleared and the pack got racing once more, and for the next 20 laps we saw some great multi-grove racing in action, the 13 of Gallagher was fighting hard with the 11 of Jones, and just behind it was a 7 truck battle for 3rd
on lap 33 we would see the caution flag back out as the 623 of Ireland caught the back of the 143 Shephard sending them into the wall with a heavy impact, after the 20 lap run once more the whole field were in for tires and fuel, still with 1 stop to make at least.
After a short 10 lap dash the Caution was back out for the 587 of Paton who lost the rear heading into turn 1, As racing got back underway the front of the pack were racing hard 3 wide for most of the track, and 4 wide across the tri-oval.
Lap 61 would see the final caution of the night fall allowing the field to get home on fuel when the 65 of Withey made contact with the 42 of Urquijo and 83 of Raymond.
For the next 30 laps the race at the front was covered by less than a second, with some great runs making it unknown who would take the win. On the finale lap it was between the 31 of Michelmore, 11 of Jones, 13 of Gallagher, and 06 of Phelps.
The 06 had a small wiggle losing momentum, the 11 managed to just beat the 13 to the line, but it was the 31 of Josh Michelmore taking the victory for the race, and round 1 of season 3 starting his championship off perfectly.
