2023 Series 3 Round 3 Truck Results
Truck Series Recap:
On Monday night the 3rd round of Season 3 for the ANZCAR Truck Series headed to Michigan Speedway where 18 drivers would fight it out over 80 laps. Jason martin landed on Pole with Ryan Jones along side in 2nd.
The green flag dropped and Ryan Jones found momentum in the outside row pulling out to lead the first lap while Martin fell back into the top 5. Josh Michelmore also took the high line into 3rd until he was went spinning off into Turn 3 on the 2nd lap with help from behind. Jaie Schultz would lead the restart and pull Jones along on the high side until Martin slotted into 2nd in Turn 3 and the top 10 single filed themselves out a little.
Martin was able to get into the lead on lap 13 bringing Jones, Lachlan Urquijo, and Garry Wellman with him as Schultz dropped back into 5th spot and the events helped the top 4 break away just a little by lap 15. A wreck on lap 17 would slow the field again and on lap 21 it was Jones who took off into the lead on the second restart with Martin now in 2nd but only for a lap as he was back in the lead on lap 24 with the top 5 right behind him.
At the halfway mark Jones had found himself the lead again with Martin trailing and Matty Raymond hot on their heels as the top 7 broke away from the rest of the pack. Raymond took over the lead on lap 43 but fell back to 3rd soon after.
The field sorted themselves through a green flag pit stop which benefited Jones who grabbed the lead after cycling through and lead up until 9 to go when Wellman was able to get underneath in Turn 4. Wellman controlled the race well from there until 2 laps to go when Ruben Phelps made a run stick and wound up with the lead off of 4. From there Phelps would maintain a 2 lap car distance back to Wellman as he crossed the finish like to take the win!
