2024 ANZCAR Lightning Series Modifieds Race 1
First up, The Whelen Modified Tour, a 6 week season which commenced its first race at Bristol Speedway. 15 entries took to the high banks with many jumping in the seat for the first time in the car.
Josh Michelmore took the first Pole of the year putting his #31 machine in a good spot out front and as the green flag dropped the field roared off down Thunder Valley. After the 2nd caution period and the race closing in on the half way mark, the racing at the front of the field picked up with lots of side by side action. Michelmore held them all at bay though as he paced the field although almost coming unstuck on two consecutive laps towards the end of the race which he narrowly managed to save. Dave Douglas, Norman Clark, JCW, Riley Curtis and Matty Raymond all had some fun battling away up the front but after 100 laps were done and dusted it was Michelmore who crossed the line under chequered flag, followed by Douglas.
Car was pretty fun to drive with a ton of grip, close quarter racing was enjoyed by all and this editor felt the series was akin to the old K&N Series in the early ANZCAR days where it was more fun than intense.
If you’re keen on having a little serious fun on Monday nights, come check it out, jump in and get racing.
Seasons will be short 6 week schedules running various types of vehicles.
