2024 ANZCAR Lightning Series Modifieds Race 4
Modified Series Recap: 4th March 2024
Modified Series Recap:
On Monday night the Lightning Rounds Modified series hit Martinsville Speedway for Round 4. Just a short field of 12 entries filled the field with Riley Curtis continuing to show speed by grabbing Pole over Norman Clark who'd start the 100 lap scheduled race from the outside row.
It didn't take long for the action to get under way once the green flag dropped with title contendoer Dave Douglas spinning around in turn 2 on the 2nd lap. the restart a lot cleaner the second time around as Josh Carroll-Walden managed to get underneath Curtis to take the lead. Edward Foster and Curtis then battled over 2nd place until Curtis found the wall off of turn 4 and had to settle into 3rd. Douglas had managed to come from the rear back into the top 3 after only 30 laps and the race finally started looking like it might go the distance, breaking an elusive yellow flag fest that typically plagues the ANZCAR competition at this race track.
As the race neared the halfway mark JCW was almost out to a 2 second lead but Foster had no intentions of going away, bringing the gap back to under 1.5 seconds as the two drove away from the rest of the field. the caution flag did wave again after a long green flag run up until lap 66 when Curtis found the outside wall hard. This would surely set the race up for an exciting finish. At the green JCW looked as though he'd been shot out of a canon, but as the laps went on Foster began to make ground, pestering the rear end with 15 to go while in the background Douglas and Garry Wellman were fighting hard for 3rd.
Despite some very hard fought laps by Foster in the end, JCW was able to hold onto a very well earned victory!
