2024 ANZCAR Lightning Series Modifieds Race 5
Modified Series Recap: 11th March 2024
Modified Series Recap:
Monday night saw the ANZCAR Lightning Rounds head to Nashville Fairgrounds for the Modified Series. With just two rounds remaining, Joshua Carroll-Walden and Dave Douglas were tied for 1st place in the championship standings. Edward Foster knocked out the fastest time in qualifying with Douglas lining up in 2nd place for the 100 lap race.
The field roared through the first lap with Douglas narrowly leading the first lap before Foster was able to get himself clear on the inside and pull away as several drivers smacked into the wall off Turn 2. After 10 laps JCW had driven into 3rd from his 4th place starting spot right behind title contender Douglas in 2nd before collecting the wall and falling back into 4th place. After 20 laps Norman Clark was looking quite racy keeping pace with the front two.
At the halfway mark a battle was brewing in mid pack with Kayd Donnelly moving up into 4th place, Troy Davidson up into 5th and Karl Withey on the move in 6th as JCW started to lose ground backing up into 10th place with damage sustained earlier. Foster was now out to a 2 second lead over Douglas. By lap 70 Foster had put a lap on half of the field as the race sped away quickly caution free.
As the race entered its final 10 laps Foster was out to a 5 second lead over Douglas as all but Clark in 3rd was left a lap behind. Riley Curtis managed to get around Davidson to take 5th position but it was Fosters day taking a commanding win!
