Hobson takes hattrick at Dover!
With the Throwback Round not happening until next week at Darlington, Dover decided to give us some nostalgic feels of its own, with Jason Martin and Josh Michelmore locking out the front row between them as has been the case so many times over the years.
As the green flag dropped Martin scampered out to an early lead, with Michelmore, Foster and Scurlock holding the top four positions for the good ol' boys, while Hobson was first of the new boys running solidly in fifth. DPR boys Dyson and Pearson started toward the back, and made solid headway in the early running, moving to tenth and nineteenth respectively after the opening twenty laps.
The only change in the top five in the opening stanza was on lap 64, when Foster moved past Michelmore to take second, with Scurlock and Hobson following him through.
Michelmore and Douglas would roll the dice and take to the pitlane shortly after. As so often is the case, it was an inspired decision that ended in disaster.
Daniel Hetterscheid found the wall and the yellow flag brought an end to almost 70 laps of green flag running. Everyone came to pit road and the unfortunates who had taken service under green lost a lap in the process.
The next twenty laps were interspersed with caution periods as the field seemed intent on making up for the lack pace car action in the first section of the race. When everything shook out Martin continued to lead but this time from Dyson, Pearson and Hobson, with Fosterson and Lobbson not far behind.
Ryan Jones began to make an impression on the race in the second half. Having taken fresh tyres he moved past Lobb and Foster before taking Dyson and slotting into fourth position. While this was going on, Pearson quietly took the lead from Martin going into lap 118, with Martin going back past on lap 144.
Ten laps later Pearson would become the first of the lead trio to come to the lane on lap 154, with Martin following suit one lap later. Hobson would hang out longer than the rest.
With the power of the undercut and Jones having a half spin while trying to negotiate lapped traffic, Foster and Pearson would battle for the net lead of the race. Foster would lead this until getting caught behind the green DPR car of Williams, which allowed Pearson to slip by. While this was happening, Raymond Jaeger had cycled to the lead after pitting slightly off sequence with the rest.
With the focus on this battle Hobson, now on fresh tyres and good to the end, was taking swathes of time out of the duo ahead, moving past on lap 183. On the following lap Foster got a run on Pearson, with the pair coming together exiting turn two, also collecting Martin. This brought out the caution with sixteen laps to go.
After everyone had cycled through the pits, Jaeger led from Hobson, with Dyson and Lobb sat in third and fourth. With the green flag dropping with ten to go, Hobson and Dyson drove around Jaeger to take first and second. This is how they would stay, with Hobson leading Dyson across the line, with Lobb taking third.
