2022 Round 13 Cup Results
“My! People come and go so quickly here!”
Pearson grabs a 3rd win for the season at Kansas !
Ruben Phelps would grab the pole position with a sizzling lap time of 31.102, Neil Pearson starting alongside with a lap time of 31.112.
The top 5 cars separated by 0.045 of a second showing just how close it was at the top and the difference between 1st and 30th being 0.799 of a second showing how competitive it would be through out the field for the race.
Phelps would lead the opening lap before Michael Scurlock would ease into the lead which he would hold onto until pitting at the end of lap 49 at which time Pearson would take over the lead through the green flag pit stop cycle.
Around now we would start to see the different strategy’s start to come in. With 130 laps in the race lap 65 would be halfway. So if you could stretch the fuel in the tank to this lap you would save yourself 1 pit stop cycle.
The bulk of the field would look to 2 stop the race with around 45 laps per run. But there would be a handful try to make it home on the 1 stop.
Through this time, we would see a few different drivers lead a lap as the pit cycle continued.
At lap 65 Pearson would take over the lead which he would only relinquish for a few laps later in the race during the 2nd green flag pit stop cycle. Some drivers opted to short pit here grabbing the fuel needed to make the end of the race after just 20 laps since their last pit stop.
In the end Pearson’s long run pace was enough to hold off a fast-finishing Wayne Bourke with Scurlock coming home in 3rd place.
Norman Clark storming home in 11th place would be the highest finisher of the 1 Pit stoppers.
Results:
1st Neil Pearson
2nd Wayne Bourke
3rd Michael Scurlock
4th Jaiden Russell
5th Brenton Hobson
