2022 S2 Round 4 Thunder Results
Gallagher makes the pass off turn 4 on the last lap to get the win!!
Andrew Dyson would have the privilege of being the 1st ANZCAR driver to being the field to green under Iracings new restart zone rules which were being used for the 1st time in ANZCAR at Nashville Super Speedway.
Ruben Phelps in 2nd, Edward Foster in 3rd, Hamish Gallagher in 4th and Josh Michelmore would make up the top 5 starting positions. The race would start out with a 33-lap run with the track and surface creating a very even running field.
Tough to pass at times and required a great deal of patience waiting for the opportunity to make a pass stick. This would see great close racing all night.
Drivers would have an eye on their fuel burn as a little bit of saving might’ve been needed to make sure they could get to the finish on just 1 pit stop. A few drivers conserving in the first green flag run just in case this one went green all the way.
Gallagher would take over and lead through to the first caution of the race on lap 33 with season points leader Ryan Jones working his way up to 2nd place from an 8th starting spot position.
This caution would see the field all pit for fuel and tires however drivers would still likely need 1 more pit to make it home. A few drivers would be thinking about saving fuel and tires to make it to the end of the race without stopping.
Jones would lead off the next restart on lap having wont the race off pit road from Gallagher. Another solid green flag run starting from lap 37, with Gallagher chipping away on the back of Jones until he was able to make the pass stick on lap 45.
A caution on lap 61 would see the field pit again for new tires and fuel. This put all drivers into the window of being able to run to the flag without needing to pit stop again.
The race would resume on lap 66. Gallagher would build himself a nice gap in this green flag run but a late caution on lap 108 would take this advantage away and see all drivers pit for their last set of fresh tires.
Some drivers opted for 2 right side tires only and some opted for 4 new.
Foster and Jones would roll the dice with 2 tire stops to lead the field for a green, white checker, a 2 lap run to end the race.
The race would really start to crescendo on this restart with the fresh tire drivers charging up to the front. Gallagher would make the pass for the lead on the exit of turn 4 with Foster hot on his heels and Dyson to finish 3rd.
Good runs for Steven Williams finishing 5th after starting 12th, Jones finishing 6th with the 2 tire call at the end, Norman Clark storming home in 7th after starting 15th, Ruben Phelps in 8th and Koby Jordan in 9th.
