2022 S2 Round 7 Thunder Results
Gallagher takes home the lobster and Norman Clark notches up 300!!
The Anzcar thunder series would roll into New Hampshire this week for the Mobile Brake and Mechanical 115@ New Hampshire.
Hamish Gallagher would put in a swift lap of 30.6 to grab the pole position followed by Josh Michelmore 30.718, Steven Williams 30.796, Tom Neil 30.898, and Ruben Phelps 30.929 making up the top 5 starting grid spots.
Bit of a rough early start with this race with caution no. 1 occuring on lap no.1.
The next restart would see a green flag run for 10 laps with Gallagher controlling the lead and drivers settling in.
The 2nd caution would see the bulk of the field to pit for fresh tires and fuel.
Tom Neil would stay out and lead the field on the lap 18 restart with the top 5 cars having stayed out. The previous leaders would waste no time to take over the lead again working through the cars with older tires on.
Gallagher taking back the lead and opening a comfortable margin from teammate Michelmore. Another quick caution would see the old tire cars pit in this time.
On the restart Kye Turner would work his way up to settle in to 3rd position followed by Jaiden Russell in 4th and Williams in 5th. The common theme throughout the race so far had been cars running the high line and cars taking this opportunity to put their car underneath and attempt the pass. This would lead to contact when the high line car would try turn down for the runoff the corner.
The last caution of the race would occur on lap 40. The leading cars would take the chance to pit in for fresh tires and fuel. But at this stage there would be a real mix through out the field with different aged tires, fuel loads and strategies.
Jaiden Russell would lead the field to the green on lap 45 with Brad Fenly restarting in 2nd and Luke Georgeson making up the top 3 postions. The race would see plenty of close quarter action through out the field as the fresh tire cars would work their way through the field.
Gallagher would retake the lead in lap 48 and while Dyson and Michelmore would be battling it out for 2nd position, Gallagher would clear away opening up a over 2 second margin.
From here there was 2 different strategies going on to the end. Those that would run to the end of the race without another pit stop and those that looked to split the long run-in half to use the advantage of fresh tires. Russell finishing in 5th the best of the cars that took this green flag pit stop.
For the lead there wasn’t much going on with Gallagher managing a big gap to 2nd and 2nd place driver Michelmore opening a comfortable margin to 3rd. But from 3rd on back the battle heat up between Dyson, Turner, and Williams.
