2023 Series 1 Round 1 Truck Results
Truck Series Recap:
Last night the ANZCAR Truck Series head to Las Vegas for round 2 of the season, where 38 entries would take the grid for 100 laps. Darren Mckenzie sat his #02 Ford on Pole for the race with Danny G lining up on the outside
Jaie Shultz pushed hard from 3rd place on the initial lap of the race, taking the lead over Josh Michelmore as Mckenzie fell back a few spots at the start. The field raced 2 and 3 wide for the first 5 laps before backing it down single file but on lap 10 a three truck wreck occurred when Mark Smith and Kye Turner came together off the tri oval. Most of the lead lap trucks made their way down pit road under yellow, but leader Schultz would remain out on track leading the field to the next green flag and up to lap 22 when Hamish Gallagher found his way out to the front.
The second caution of the night fell on lap 25 with another multi truck wreck in turns 1 and 2 bringing the field down pit road again, Gallagher remained in the lead and would lead the field back under green for the final time of the night, Michelmore was keeping a close watch in second, Nigel Paton in 3rd, Jaie Schultz 4th and Chris Finlay rounding out the top 5.
Green flag pit stops started at about lap 60 and went through to lap 75 as the field opted for different strategies, Gallagher in the lead came in on lap 69 and would hand the lead over to Shaun Doeke but was able to drive back into the lead by lap 79. From there it was pretty clear sailing, albeit being hounded by team mate Michelmore, the two opening up a 7 second lead over the field by races end. Steven Williams finished up in 3rd place, Ruben Phelps in 4th and Darren Mckenzie rounded out the top 5.
