2023 Series 1 Round 3 Truck Results
Truck Series Recap:
Last night the ANZCAR Truck Series took on Atlanta Superspeedway for the series inaugural run around the newly paved track with the Superspeedway package. Another sell out field took to the track with Darren Mckenzie making another good run in qualifying taking top honours over Scott Griffiths in second place.
The front of the field battled away at the start of the race with a few mishaps in the lead pack that led to 4 drivers making contact with the fence and subsequently becoming stuck to it, dropping through the field. Unlike other Superspeedway race where tire wear isn’t much of a factor, tires did play a part in this race with the trucks becoming a little touchy to drive after around 20 laps. Right on cue, the first yellow flew on lap 19 when Max Cooper got caught on the outside fence sending him airborne.
Most of the leaders came down pit road for fresh rubber and a top up for fuel but Jaie Schultz tried his luck staying out, which worked well as the 2nd caution flew up lap 38 when a big wreck happened in Turns 3-4 sending everyone back down pit road.
As more leaders in the front pack started to drop through the field, some new faces arose toward the later stages of the race. Danny G, Chris Finlay, Jack Barrett, Michael Campbell and Josh Michelmore all found themselves inside the top 5 competing for the win. A late caution would make for an exciting run to to the finish as Danny G tried to hold off Barrett on the outside. For 3 laps Danny G threw blocks to the outside but was passed on the second last lap of the race.
As they raced around the final lap, Danny G managed to get to the outside and with a big push from Finaly, crossing the line to win the race as the field wrecked behind.
Again, big shout out to Chequrered Flag E-Streaming, the boys do a wonderful job bringing the ANZCAR Truck Series to life through their broadcasts and spreads or following far and wide, so thank you, you can check lasts night stream out right here!
