2023 Series 2 Round 1 Truck Results
Truck Series Recap:
Season 2 of 2023 for the ANZCAR Truck Series kicked off on Monday night with the series inaugural race at the short track of Hickory. A good sized short track field of 26 drivers turned up for the 130 lap event and they would be quickly greeted by the tracks intriguing characteristics. Ryan Jones landed top spot in qualifying followed by Josh Michelmore starting from the outside row.
The action started straight off the bat as drivers turned their first laps in race trim often finding the rear bumper of the truck in front of them. The setup for the race was quite snappy loose on entry followed by a push mid corner to exit. As the laps ticked by and the caution count increased, the majority of the top 10 found themselves all over the place in terms of positions.
It was really only Ryan Jones who kept himself out front and even at one stage in the race found himself turned sideways down the front stretch with Andrew Dyson
Pit stops were also interesting, as the track only had 16 stalls so a third of the field had to double up and with such a short lap, many drivers unfortunately fell a lap down while navigating pit road. As drivers started coming to terms with a sluggishly slow outside line off restarts, the driving became increasingly more aggressive as drivers battled to get to the bottom line before being hung out to dry.
The race ended with a green-white-checker finish and Andrew Dyson bringing home chequered flag over Ryan Jones who pushed hard all race to earn himself 2nd place, giving the win a crack with a big bump in the last corner but to no avail.
