2023 Round 15 Cup Results
Dyson in Gateway Domination
Round 15 saw 25 Cup series drivers roll in to Madison, Illinois to tackle the 1.25 mile World Wide Technology Raceway.
Qualifying would see a DPR front row lockout, with Andrew Dyson and Neil Pearson posting laps just .001 different!!! Lachlan Urquijo and Steven Williams would be the only other drivers to post sub 34 second laps and they would make up the 2nd row of the grid.
The early part of the race would see Andrew Dyson lead comfortably from teammate Neil Pearson, lap 10 would see Toby Stent come from 5th on the grid to take 2nd from Pearson, this is how they would run for the next 25 laps before Pearson moved back through on Stent for 2nd. Lap 46 would see Dave Douglas spin off the exit of turn 2, bringing out the first caution of the race, bringing all but Jaie Schultz(who had pitted early on lap 31) down the pit lane.
The restart would see Schultz lead away, but normal service would resume as Dyson would take the lead again by the time they made it back to the line, on the exit of turn 2 an incident between Daniel Hetterscheid, Neil Pearson and Jaie Schultz would see our 2nd caution fly. Dyson would lead the field away for another brief run as on lap 69 we would see Darryl Hockey get in to Jaie Schultz and Dave Douglas to bring out our 3rd caution in short succession.
Everyone with the exception of Daniel Hetterscheid and Darryl Hockey would head to the pits under what would turn out to be our final caution of the race.
Hetterscheid would lead the field away but once again by the time they got back to the stripe, Andrew Dyson was back at the front of the field, he would lead the next 46 laps before coming down the pit lane for the final time on lap 120.
Toby Stent would take the lead for 2 laps before coming down the lane himself handing the lead to Neil Pearson who had stopped earlier on lap 113. Neil would lead for 8 laps before that man Dyson would come through on lap 130 and take the lead again.
Dyso would lead the final 30 laps and take a dominant win by 14 seconds, leading 143 of the 160 laps. Neil Pearson would finish 2nd, 3rd was Toby Stent, Ryan Jones would finish 4th and Lachlan Urquijo would round out the top 5.
Next week sees the cup head to wine country and the Sonoma raceway.
