2023 Series 3 Round 2 Truck Results
Truck Series Recap: 80 laps – Auto Club Speedway Fontana
Round two of the Trucks would head to the fast fun speedway of Fontana Auto Club speedway home to the fastest ever closed course lap. The trucks were not at the 340mph speeds of the Penske CART Car's of years gone by but topping out at nearly 290 KPH the speed way plentiful. Mitch motorsport's Jason Martin (21) would show once again why he is one of the best drivers in Australia and the world taking pole position ahead of DPR's newest signing Ryan Jones (11) and the rest of the 23 car field.
As the green flag feel the racing got underway with drivers quickly going up to 3 wide through the multi-grove track the top 12 were covered by less than a second for the first few laps with a mix of strategies starting to take shape, some drivers took it easy in the early stages wanting to preserve their tires and fuel, but most of the field were racing hard.
On lap 7 the hard charger Jaie Schultz (27) had gone from 19th to the lead, in the nick of time too as the first and only caution would fall later in the lap when Rookie Carmelo Colloridi (74) would scrub up the track through turn 4 collecting the (64) Brent Hobbs, taking them both out of the race. Lap 11 would have the cars back into racing mode with the top 9 pulling away from the rest of the pack and racing hard with each other, each of the top 9 were swapping places lap in and lap out for the next 15 or so laps, and the field started to settle down.
Lap 45 to lap 47 would see everyone down the lane for their stops for fresh tires and fuel, and fresh tires would lead to more racing, as the cars got to the line the top 3 were covered by less than a second but in the end it was the Purple Mitch car of Jason Martin (21) that would keep his position and take Victory.
