2024 ANZCAR Lightning Series Modifieds Race 2
Modified Series Recap: 19th Feb 2024
Modified Series Recap:
Five Flags Speedway was the venue to host Race 2 of the ANZCAR Lightning Series Modified round which saw 12 entries rock up for the 100 lap event. Dave Douglas took the honours in qualifying putting himself on the front row with Joshua Carroll-Walden
The field was cut loose at the drop off the green with Douglas and JCW leading the field. JCW made a move for the lead on the inside on lap 3 and eventually took the lead by lap 5. An early wreck fell on lap 13 of the race, which offered up a bit of strategy in the early going. The leaders stayed out while the majority of the field elected to pit for new tires. Once the race resumed the leaders were rounded up by the fresh rubber and Riley Curtis made a move for the lead until lap 40 when the nights second caution fell. Josh Michelmore would now enjoy the lead for a brief moment before an incident had him wrapped up on caution number 3 and would end his race.
This swung the field back around to how it first started with JCW and Douglas back out front. The final 35 laps ticked by very quickly and just as quick was JCW who took the checkered flag, no questions asked! Curtis finished in 2nd place, Douglas in 3rd, Steven Williams in 4th and Daniel Grzeszkiewicz in 5th.
