ANZCAR Clash 2022 Results
As brutal as the ancient Roman Colosseum was, so was the ANZCAR Clash.
A tightly packed field shoehorned itself into this most unlikely of venues for an exhibition race for the ages, and it did not disappoint.
Heat 1 began with fastest qualifier Phillip Worley leading the 7 car field away, with Luke Trahair the first casualty as he was spun by Justin Whitcher.
This promoted Dyson to 3rd who dropped it with a lap to go, handing 3rd place back to the 12 car.
1st Worley
2nd Hobson
3rd Whitcher
Heat 2 had newcomer Dylan O'Shea leading the pack away, with Pearson being spun by Urquijo out of 3rd place on the opening lap. This promoted Josh Carroll-Walden to the cursed 3 spot only for him to throw it away with an immediate self-spin. Matthew Raymond was the next to inherit the spot, only to make a mistake and hand it back to Pearson, who was then promoted to second when Jaiden Russell spun out. The damaged Russell then did his best to hold off Tim Caunt and Raymond, however was turned by Caunt allowing JCW back to P3.
1st O'Shea
2nd Pearson
3rd Carroll-Walden
Heat 3 had Foster starting on the pole ahead of Steven Williams. Aiden Schultz made his mark by spinning at the green flag, while Williams was taken out of second place by the lapped car of Noddy Thompkins, allowing Daniel Hetterscheid to take P2.
1st Foster
2nd Hetterscheid
3rd Williams
With the LCQ unnecessary the field lined up for the feature, with Worley and O'Shea sharing the front row with Foster and Hobson lining up behind.
Thompkins triggered the first big wreck when recovering from a spin of his own, leaving Williams with nowhere to go and collecting several cars. This was quickly followed by another pile up when Dyson was turned by Schultz, with several more cars collected. With O'Shea dropping out Foster was promoted to second, which became third after he was wrongfooted by the recovering Schultz, with Hobson pouncing and taking the second spot. Foster would tail Hobson for much of the rest of the race without making his way by. From there the race settled down and Worley, himself missing some panels after his own incident while lapping Thompkins, managed the gap to the cars behind perfectly, always keeping some lapped cars between him and his pursuers. A great start to the season for him.
1st Worley
2nd Hobson
3rd Foster
