Grzeskiewicz thrills as 24 comes up in Las Vegas!
As the cars took to the grid under the clear Nevada sky questions instead of clouds hung in the air. Could DPR be beaten?
After only failing to win the Daytona Duels since the season began, there was promise for the rest of the field as the in-form Jaiden Russell of Synergy took pole ahead of Grzeskiewicz of Mitch. They were followed by Freer, Pearson, O'Shea and Williams. The grid took something of an unfamiliar look as usual front runners Trahair, Martin, Hobson and Foster all started toward the tail.
As the race got underway Russell darted to an early lead followed by Freer, with Pearson pushing hard to make a run for the lead on lap two. The race would only run to lap five when Carroll-Walden became the latest to fall victim to the new car's legendary snappiness, spinning out of four and collecting Hetterscheid, Phelps and Raymond.
Pearson led away on the restart while O'Shea, Russell, Freer and Moloney disputed second place. Moloney moving past Pearson to take the lead heading into lap thirteen. The leaders came back into the clutches of the pack creating a fifteen car lead battle that also saw Freer and Schultz lead laps. This would last until lap fifty four when Schultz struck the back of the limping Carroll-Walden, causing a substantial wreck that collected Freer, Russell, Foster, Pearson, Grzeskiewicz, Dyson and Worley.
This left Moloney to lead from Scurlock on the restart which is how they would run until lap sixty five when series debutant Connor Nixon lost it on the back straight, collecting Trahair. Trahair expressed his displeasure by spinning Nixon under caution which also collected Brad Allison. The resulting green would only last for a couple of laps before Hetterscheid spun and collected Greg Spencer. This prompted several cars to come to pit road to top off with fuel while others elected to stay out. This would prove pivotal as unknown to the drivers this would be the final caution of the race.
Moloney would lead away from Scurlock and the recovering Martin, Michelmore and Grzeskiewicz. A three car breakaway would form as Kye Turner slotted into third place, as the remainder of the top ten was hotly disputed.
With twenty five laps to go Moloney got loose out of four and handed the lead to Turner, who held the lead until lap 109 when he made a slip of his own. Moloney would reassume the lead before losing it for good on lap 118 with a mistake that sent him across the frontstretch grass. Scurlock lead from Martin but needed to stop for fuel with seven laps to go, leaving Grzeskiewicz to fight Pearson for the lead. After duelling for the final laps, Grzeskiewicz finally made the move stick at the white flag for his first win of the season.
