ANZCAR Turns 5 !!
ANZCAR turns 5
This week marks the 5th anniversary of the very first ANZCAR race. We've come a long way in that time, from the days there was almost no stock car or oval racing to be had in Aus/NZ prime time to today where there is something for everyone every night of the week.
Some of us have amassed some amazing stats in that time, so we figured we would run through a few of them. 443 drivers have tried their hand at an ANZCAR race.
62 drivers have made their way to victory lane in at least one race.
The driver with the most ANZCAR starts is Steven Williams, who has amassed 375 starts while driving for teams such as Allusion Motorsports and DPR. He has raced a total of 38,046 laps with 53,202 miles completed.
The most wins belong to Jason Martin, the Mitch Motorsports driver notching 63 at the time of writing – that's 21% of his 298 starts. He also has the most top fives with 164.
The most top tens belong to Martin's teammate, Josh Michelmore. Josh has finished in the top ten 239 times from his 320 starts, that's 74% of the time.
The best win % of active drivers is Brenton Hobson, who has won 11 races which equates to 28% of his starts. He also holds the best top five strike rate of 63%.
The best top ten strike rate among active drivers is 78%, held jointly by Edward Foster, Hamish Gallagher and Brenton Hobson. There aren't many regulars among the “less desirable” end of the stats, but we'll take a dive in anyway...
The most incidents ever in a single race (before the DQ limit of 17 was introduced) was Michael Barry, who managed to amass 34 during his only start at Chicagoland in July 2018.
The highest incidents per lap average is 9 when Jacob K Sampson enjoyed what must have been an eventful first (and only) lap at Watkins Glen in 2018.
The fewest miles driven is 2, by Dylan Shepherd in his only start at Dover in 2019.
What will these numbers look like in another 5 years?
