2022 Round Cup Results
Dyson sweeps the week at COTA!
Cool and clear conditions welcomed the drivers to the first road course of the 2022 Cup season at the famous Circuit Of The Americas in Austin, Texas.
With awkward S bends and tight hairpins the layout is about as far from the comfort zone of a Daytona-bred stock car that one is likely to encounter, even if this latest generation car is meant to be slightly more versatile than its forebears.
Of course ANZCAR road course racing these days invariably means Dyson on pole, and the orange DPR car didn't disappoint, taking pole and sharing the front row with newcomer Luke Rosella.
Dyson lead away at the start leading a breakaway trio also including Rosella and fellow hirsute gentleman Brenton Hobson. The opening lap was mostly clean with the only notable incident being Phoenix winner Hetterscheid, who spun on the astroturf exiting turn one, striking Jason Martin's front bumper as he exited stage right.
The most entertaining battle of the early stages was fought between Dylan O'Shea and Corey Macfarlane. Time and time again Macfarlane would send his Mustang down the inside and slide wide, inviting O'Shea to retake the position.
Mid race pitstops came around... well, mid race. Foster and Scurlock were the first of the front runners to pit as they caught the O'Shea/Macfarlane train. Scurlock spinning upon exiting the pits and dropping a couple of places. The same fate would befall Hobson who had taken second place from Rosella only to hand it back by having his own pit exit spin.
In the end it would be Rosella who would push Dyson the hardest but would ultimately fall short, with Dyson coming home the victor by four seconds.
Unfortunately Rosella would miss post race tech and would be disqualified, promoting Hobson to second and O'Shea to third.
Next week the 247 Cup Series heads to Richmond.
