2022 S3 Round 1 Trucks Results
Truck Series Recap:
Last night the Affinity Constructions Truck Series returned for the final season of the year, embarking on Indianapolis to get the season under way. 20 drivers took to the grid, led by Dave Douglas who took top spot in qualifying after a late entry.
Douglas would pull away as the race started and strategy started pretty early. The top 5 raced away, but the back end of the top 10 slowed up a bit to save fuel to make sure they could go the distance on one stop. With Douglas facing clean air and higher fuel usage, he elected to drop back and get on the fuel saving strategy as well while Jason Martin, Josh Michelmore and Danny G continued out front. Jaiden Russell had saved some fuel early in the run and started to climb through the field quite quickly, Ruben Phelps was also making ground when the pit cycles opened for the leaders on lap 29.
As the leaders pitted the sole caution of the event came out when Lachlan Urquijo came unstuck heading into the pits and found himself against the pit entry wall. Martin, who was in the lead fell victim to the yellow flag as he had to pit for fuel when pit road was closed which dropped him back to the tail end when the race resumed.
Luke Georgeson found himself in the lead, thanks to a pit stop under green a couple of laps prior to the yellow and would lead the field. Michelmore and Russell battled hard for 2nd until Russell got the better and ended up in 2nd and not long after, raced his way into the lead. Georgeson fell back a little on older tires, Martin picked off positions one by one until he was back in the top 5. Phelps and Steven Williams battled away to round out the top 5. Dave Douglas also had a nice run through the field but would drop back a few positions in the closing laps.
As the race wound down, Russell continued to pull a gap on the field, coming to the checker flag with a strong finish. Michelmore, Danny G, Jason Martin and Garry Wellman who had a nice drive from the back to round out the top 5.
