Lucky 31 Announcement
OK so we've got a problem. In short, we are too popular!
We admit we didn't believe we would have 50 cars showing up each week attempting to qualify for Cup races, and this has resulted in 20 cars every week being left high and dry with nothing to do on a Thursday night but watch the fortunate 30 battle it out while thinking, “it should have been me”.
So, we had some beer and came up with a solution, the soon-to-be-famous “Lucky 31”.
Each week around 15 minutes after Cup qualifying has concluded and the race server has gone up, a second race server will open for all those who missed the cut. The race will run the same track and setup as the Cup race with around half the distance. The winner of this race will be the “Lucky 31” and will be given a locked in 31st spot on the grid for the following week's Cup race.
Now, we aren't looking to steward this race by trawling through every incident with a fine-toothed comb. If something needs looking at it will need to be protested and a replay clip supplied as is the case with official iRacing protests. The “Lucky 31” winner needs to win the race without causing any wrecks or breaking any other rules. They will also need to upload their telemetry like any other ANZCAR race winner.
So for those who miss the cut, you now have a chance to lock in for the next week. Even if you don't, you still get a race in rather than being left with nothing to do, and you can still attempt to qualify the normal way the following week.
Sound good? Good!
